  • Spotify’s Trópico seeks to capture the essence of Brasilian Popular Music, while also attracting Spotify listeners new and old. Brasilian popular music (música popular brasileira) emerged in the 1960s as a response to the military dictatorship. It is at once quintessentially Brasilian and historically shaped by diverse influences such as bossa nova, rock, and jazz.

  • Design a visual identity system for Trópico, a weekly updated music playlist of the MPB genre. Consider that a different artist will be highlighted each week, and an internal team will be responsible for the updates. The system should be versatile enough to be used across various applications, from streaming platforms to social media, and campaign materials.

  • The Trópico brand identity system is grounded in the core visual and verbal themes that characterize MPB. The system embodies and interprets the key features of collective memory, multidimensionality, and political rebellion in a new way, while simultaneously emphasizing MPB’s groundbreaking nature as a musical genre.

By combining elements of these key themes, Trópico reimagines the classics of Brasilian Popular Music in a way that will appeal to listeners new and old.
